Oleksii Furman


Ukrainian visual storyteller, a graduate of the University of Missouri, and co-founder of New Cave Media, an immersive storytelling studio in Kyiv, Ukraine. When Ukrainian revolution started, he was deeply involved in the coverage and then moved to Crimea and East Ukraine to continue photographing the ongoing war conflict for various international media. Over the last years, his focus switched to longer-term intimate storytelling.

Olexii is a journalist and documentary photography artist who has gained acclaim from photography and journalism competitions such as POYi, NPPA, PDN Photo Annual, CPOY, and the Kuala Lumpur Photo Awards. His exceptional talent in the field led to him winning the Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents in the "Young Reporter" category in 2014.

His impactful photography, which covers conflict zones, has been widely recognized and featured in leading international publications such as TIME, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and National Geographic Magazine Ukraine. His work documents events and engages the viewers with the aspects of conflict. Driven by a commitment to convey the realities of the conflict in Ukraine, Olexii documents the events in Eastern and Southern Ukraine, where war is felt the most. Olexii aims to provide a meaningful perspective on the events he witnesses. His goal is to enable viewers to experience the impacts of these events through his emotionally resonant photographic and video documentation. This approach underscores the personal connection to the stories he covers and emphasizes the deep meaning of his work in bringing these issues to the forefront of global awareness.
